INDUSTRIES
Firstly what an industry? It is an economic activity which provides satisfaction towards the humans' need and wants. There are four different type of industry;
- Primary industry (natural resources)
- Secondary industry (manufacturing)
- Tertiary industry (services)
- Quaternary industry (science and research)
The secondary, tertiary and quaternary industries are very dependent on the primary industry. This is because the materials that the secondary industry uses are from the primary industry and the tertiary industry sells the product that the secondary industry manufactures, making it indirectly dependant on the primary industry for its natural resources. The quaternary industry is also indirectly dependant and related as they keep track on natural resources use, research about technology and work toward improvement to our environment.
This is an example of a primary industry;
Fishing industry
The fishing industry includes any activity concerned with taking, culturing, processing, preserving, storing, transporting, marketing or selling fish. Therefore, this specific industry includes jobs like;
- Fishermen
Fishermen play the major role of this industry. This is because it is their job to catch the fishes by using nets, traps and lines.
- Fishing Boat Captain
The fishing boat captain takes the fishermen to an area where there will be a higher chance of catching the fish they requested for. The boat captain is also in charge of the fishermen’s safety, which makes this job a very important role in this industry.
- Fish and Seafood Brokers
Fish and seafood brokers help fishermen to find buyers for their catch. They arrange the transporting, collection and payment. These brokers also help fishermen to get and renew their licenses.
This fishing industry happens in areas where there are fishes that humans fish for in the ocean, large rivers or lakes. It also involves other industry such as the secondary industry which manufactures the boats, nets, traps and other tools which is needed when fishing. It also involves the tertiary industry as it services the boats for the fishermen and also help the fishermen to get their licences, like the fish and seafood brokers. This industry also involves the quaternary industry for its research on the weather and climate and other factors that might affect their safety and their catch.
The fishing industry can affect one’s country economy as if there are a lot of demands for a species of fish that can be found by their country, the country will be able to earn a lot of money. however, overfishing will cause an unsustainable ecosystem which should not be encouraged. Not only does it harm the sealife environment, it also affects us humans. This is because if the overfishing does not stop, the growth of the population of that fish stops growing, it will soon be extinct. humans will never get the chance to hunt for the fish again, not even see it. This will affect the food chain which will cause the other organism in the sea to decrease or increase over its carrying capacity. The ecosystem can only be balanced after years as it needs to adjust without the extinct species.
