THE ROCK CYCLE
there are three main types of rock that are in the rock cycle:
1 / Sedimentary
2 / Metamorphic
3 / Igneous
Each of these type of rocks can change back and forth to different forms if they are in the right place where the conditions and environment is right. Firstly, lets look at the formation of each rock ...

1 / Sedimentary Rocks
Sedimentary rocks are made out of sand, shells, pebbles, and other fragments of material, these materials have been deposited as they are being pressured by water, wind or ice. these materials build up in layers (only in cold temperature), and the weight of the top layers compresses the bottom layers. The compression squeezes out water, leaving salt crystals that cement the rocks together.
example : chalk, limestone, sandstone and shale
2 / Metamorphic
Metamorphic rocks are formed under the surface of the Earth, and Earth movements can cause rocks to be deeply buried or squeezed. As a result, the rocks are heated and put under great pressure when they are underground. However, they do not melt, but the minerals they contain are changed chemically, this will then form metamorphic rocks.
example : slate, gneiss and marble

3 / Igneous
Igneous rocks are formed when magma, a rock that melts that contains melted minerals, cools and solidfies. magma is made when the inside of the earth is hot enough to melt the molten rock (magma) or it erupts onto the surface from volcanoes.
example : basalt, obsidian and
granite
So how does each form of rock change to another form??

This is a diagram of THE ROCK CYCLE. With the presense of heat, cool, pressure, weather and erosion, rocks can change to any form in the rock cycle.
SEDIMENTARY ROCK-
- comes from sediments
-needs to be compacted and cementated to become sedimentary rock
-can become metamorphic rock if under high temperature and pressure
- can become an igneous rock if it rises closer towards earth surface and cools
METAMORPHIC ROCKS
- can become magma after melting and igneous after vocano erupts
-can become an igneous rock if it rises closer towards earth surface and cools
IGNEOUS ROCKS
-can become sedimention after weather and erosion and transportation and deposition.

This is another diagram to help to picture where rocks formation takes place and under what circumstances can cause them to switch forms and how.
